There are 2 settings. Player encumbrance multiplier and player encumbrance penalty multiplier. I can't find any newer posts on this but I read an old one that said changing the player encumbrance multiplier actually changed the player level.Also, little things die before you reach the end of a combo, and big things will hurt you back before you reach the end of a combo.
