Nope. Nothing is inherently harder for a "DO" to get into if you take the USMLE and do just as well as your MD counterparts. You can cure cancer. With a lot of early stage cancers, surgery will often be the only intervention a patient will need. I was very worried and self-conscious about matching, so I dove into the Match data and wrote a 3 part piece about the NRMP match.But with plastics being a minimum of 8 years, that needs to be in the back of your mind. You get 7 years of total funding, after burning 5 years on General Surgery it could be tough especially without a visa. A fellowship is roughly 2 years and would be a better option since you'll still have funding.Anyone else applying 2024 Match gen surg? I found a spreadsheet and forum for those of us in this years cycle.Only ACGME violation might have been that stretch on vascular. The rule is 80hr/wk averaged over 4 weeks. So you could work 120 hrs without violating the rules if you compensate with shorter weeks that month. Same goes for days off.
